Creating Future Nostalgia

Idaho Wedding
photographer

Hi, I'm Erik

I'm a wedding photographer in Idaho

WHO IS ERIK?

In the early 2000’s I got pretty addicted to thrift store shoping. Picture a much younger Erik, hooked on finding 10-speed bikes, cozy wool sweaters, vintage dress shoes with leather soles, and anything vintage in the electronics department. On one magical day at the Silverdale, WA Goodwill, I laid eyes on a Canon AE-1 Program camera. Was it way too expensive? Hell yes. Did I know a thing about film photography? No clue. Did I still snatch up that 30-year-old gem? You betcha.

That’s how I stumbled into photography. Loads of film, a bunch of poorly exposed and composed images. It was a lot of fun. I eventually upgraded to the digital world and took an obscene amount of pictures as my wife and I traveled in the early years of our marriage.

Fast forward to 2015 where I managed to convince someone to let me be their wedding photographer One taste was enough to get me hooked. I’ve been lucky enough to meet and work with amazing couples all over Idaho, Washington, Utah, Nevada, California, and Wyoming.

WHAT IS FUTURE NOSTALGIA?

I love the idea of creating “Future Nostalgia”. Remember when Andy Bernard in the last episode of the office said, “I wish there was a way to know you’re in “the good old days”, before you’ve actually left them.” When I photograph a wedding, I’m documenting “the good old days” We are witnessing and documenting events and moments that we will later look back on with immense nostalgia. So when we work together, we create “Future Nostalgia”. I LOVE that!

Who are my People?

I vibe the best without outdoor enthusiast couples, who love spending  time in the wild places of the world. Wether that’s the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho, the Wasatch Front in Utah, the amazing Western state National Parks like Yellowstone and Grand Teton, or even as far as my old stomping grounds in the Olympic Mountains of Washington. I’m open to exploring new locations, or even spending time in places that mean a lot to you. I LOVE working in Sun Valley Idaho. Redfish Lake and Stanley, ID might be my favorite places in the state. I’ve been fortunate to work with a lot of couples in stunning places.

I work best with people who care about the meaninful moments on a wedding day. Who care more about the feelings and expressions of love then if the flowers are the perfect shade of mauve. I also love working with people who aren’t afraid to party like they mean it. I can’t help but dance along at receptions with the rest of the guests. Cutting a rug with the people you love the most who came to celebrate you promsing your love to your favorite person? How can you not be stoked to be a part of that!? Big weddings with hundreds of people, or intimate elopements with just you and your person, I love photographing these moments of “Future Nostalgia.”

WHAT DO I DO?

My style is a mix of posed traditional portraits and candid “lifestyle” portraits. I have EXTENSIVE posing experience. I can help you look natural in front of the camera. I can’t promise you will feel 100% natural, but the pictures will turn out lovely. I provide global edits for consistent style and coloring.  I am ready to capture your happy moments, as authentically as possible. Photography can celebrate the happy moments worth documenting in our lives. If you want a charming third wheel on your wedding day, I’m happy to offer my services. Let’s create some “future nostalgia’ together.

ARE WE A GOOD FIT?

If you’ve read all of this and are sitting there thinking, “Gosh, this Erik guy seems really cool. I think we might be a good fit…” then we should probably talk. I would love to chat about your wedding and see if we could work together to document some future nostalgia. There are plenty of ways to get ahold of me, choose your favorite method and le’t get something on the schedule. Thanks for stopping by!

Skills I Bring to the table

Herding Cats

Herding Cats

I am an expert in “Herding Cats. Well not literally, but managing crowds on a wedding day is 100% comparable. All of that experience has taught me a lot about handling the chaos of a wedding day. Just like coaxing kitties into line, getting everyone together for group photos requires a mix of patience, creativity, a good sense of humor and a good crowd control voice. Especially considering no one really likes group wedding photos anyways. I've learned to roll with the punches, staying cool even when things get a little wild. (Drunk uncles, wild groomsmen, and even dramatic mothers of the bride, things can get wild) But oftentimes It's those unexpected moments that can turn into the most memorable shots! So while I may not have an official certificate in cat herding, I've definitely picked up some valuable skills that make me a better photographer for your big day.

Turnaround Time

Turnaround Time

Delivering edited images quickly isn't just about meeting a deadline; it's about ensuring that my couples have the best possible experience from start to finish. After the whirlwind of the wedding day, couples want their photos ASAP. By working efficiently to edit and deliver their images promptly, I help keep that excitement alive and ensure that their memories are as fresh as possible. Plus, let's face it—waiting for wedding photos can suck! That's why I make it a priority to minimize that anxiety by providing a fast turnaround time. It's all about giving my couples peace of mind and showing them that I'm fully invested in capturing and preserving their special day.

Dad Jokes

Dad Jokes

Having a sense of humor is like my secret weapon. I've found that cracking a joke or sharing a silly dad joke can work wonders in breaking the ice and putting everyone at ease, especially during those formal portrait sessions. It's amazing how a little laughter can turn a potentially tense moment into a fun and relaxed one, resulting in more natural and genuine expressions from my clients. But humor isn't just about making people laugh—it's also about handling the unexpected with grace and positivity. Weddings can be chaotic, but having a sense of humor helps me stay calm under pressure and navigate any challenges that come my way.
